Announcing Fedora 8 Xfce Spin

As promised earlier, the Xfce Spin of Fedora 8 is now available. Live CD’s are available now for x86 and x86_64 architecture. I fine tuned the package list to fit into a CD even for x86_64 architecture unlike the other live images. We need to test PPC live cd a bit more and that is likely to follow after sometime. Meanwhile, I appreciate any feedback you might have on this.

Digg It.

  1. xchat vs. xchat-gnome

I’ve looked at your kickstart and noticed you’re including xchat-gnome. Any particular reason you’re picking this over vanilla xchat?

Users asked for it, it fits the environment better and I use it in Xfce.

Interesting, I’d have expected the plain GTK+ XChat to fit much better into an XFCE environment. But then again I use it (plain XChat) on KDE, where it’s definitely out of place as a GTK+ app, but not so much as xchat-gnome with its minimalist configuration dialog.

Xfce is such a minimalistic kind of DE and many of the Xfce native apps are buggy. Most apps that we include or use tend to be GNOME apps, I talked to a Xfce developer who recommended that I use GNOME apps in most cases even! so xchat-gnome fits in quite nicely.
